Playing With ZBrush! (Begin the Clay Bashing)

As explained in my earlier post, I have to create a 3D sculpture, i've only used 3D software once before in previous projects, so this was a real challenge for me, as I have to master something new.  At first I thought we where going to be using Maya, but I soon found out we where using a 3D sculpting software called ZBrush.
It did take me a few days to get used to the control's, but once I got the hang of the basic's it became a lot easier, (definitely a lot easier than Maya).  These where some of the results of playing around with the software and getting the hang of things.

'Porky' was the very first sculpt I created, there was a time at one point where I was going to make him my final sculpt, but I decided against it as I was still deciding on what I should do for my major sculpt.

'Mousse', was my second creation, for this one I decided to focus more on stretching the mesh out so that I could create a body, but instead went for a load of horn's with different features.

'Crunchie' was my first design to go outside experimenting with just claybuildup and move tool's, this one I was focusing on using different alpha pattern's and using subtool's for the first time. (the eyes and the tiny subtools at the top of the head).

‘Stache’ was my next chimera iteration, I based the design off the first 2D drawing I did. This one I focused more on getting the head to sit on the neck, and fiddling around with the moustache, trying to drag it out. I used a mixture of moodboards for this design, mostly using my Pokemon moodboard. As a result the face had a more cartoon look to it than the others.

Zsphere Models
I decided to play around in zsphere mode to get the hang of it and see what I could create, after following the online tutorials, this is what I got:

'Spidey' was the first design I created using zspheres, I found this very easy to use when it can to creating a whole body, however it did take me a number of turns to get used to switching between the 'draw', 'move', 'scale', 'rotate', tools.  But I soon got the hang of it and was able to create this in about 10 minutes.

'Scarie' was my second design, on this model I chose to see how many different times I could drag the spheres out, and creating fingers and toes.  This would have been a more suitable design if I where going with my original chimera design, but I'm glad I didn't, this design is just weird to me.
