This one I started to do, but then left it to work on my 3D modelling. I went for a lizard wearing battle armour, I added small bit's of scars and facial features then spent about 10-15 minutes shading it. This one has a more cartoon vibe to it than some of my other pieces of work, One reason was I probably used the Pokemon moodboard for reference at that time.
This was an unfinished piece that I started at the beginning of the project, I wanted to get some ideas for my gargoyle. I must have created this dragon one, it was referenced from my dragon moodboard, and I focused more on getting a shape of the head rather than the actual detail of the body.
This is where I decided on doing a dinosaur for my final design, this was the only 2D piece that wasn't quick sketched, so it took a few hours. My first design look's more like a wolf than a dinosaur, my second design was one of my favourites, I combined my T-rex with spider eyes, bat ears, and fin's for show. The third design was more of a bird dinosaur, I looked at the phoenix for references. The fourth one was a mixture of a Velociraptor with fish gills, the fifth was my other favourite, a stegosaurus mixed with deer antlers, extra horns, a beak, and a beard (for fun). My last one looked at a T-rex with multiple ears, and a rhino's horn.
I had already decided on a final sculpt in Zbrush at the time I drew this, this was to get an idea of how it would look merged into the wall. I wanted to have him in a position where he's struggling to get out of the wall, the bottom two sketches (First picture)where what I focused on the most when building the mesh in 3D. The second picture was to get an idea of where the water spout is coming out. I mainly wanted it to be coming out of the mouth, at one point I wanted it to be coming out of his nose for comedian effect, but I couldn't get the mesh to bend the way I wanted it to.
These where later iterations to see what I could do to improve my sculpture. One of my friends suggested I do the rancor from star wars. I then decided to base my skin details on the rancor design, for example: I created armour pads on his shoulders, and I sculpted the stomach in a similar way.
Now to move this onto the 3D work, Yay!
